Woodstone Credit Union CEO Chosen for the Credit Union National Association's Executive Committee

Seattle (allCUnews) - Woodstone Credit Union is pleased to announce that President and CEO Susan Streifel, CCE was recently elected to the position of Executive Committee Member Director at-large for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). In January 2010, Susan was re-elected to CUNA Board of Directors for a term of three years. She started on the CUNA Board in 2007.

Susan is a recognized and prominent leader and advocate for credit unions in Washington state and across the country. “I learned early on that if you want to change things you needed to be in a position to do so. I am not a good, armchair quarterback; I enjoy being engaged and effective in influencing the direction of an organization. I love what credit unions provide for their members and in general what the organization stands for. This makes me all the more passionate to do all that I can for credit unions.”

In 2002, she assumed the chief executive role at Woodstone Credit Union, continuing a career that spans more than 30 years of not-for-profit financial cooperative experience. As a well-known credit union advocate, Susan is committed to building a strong future for credit unions of all sizes. In 2006, Susan graduated from the Credit Union Executives Society’s (CUES) CEO Institute earning her certification as Certified Chief Executive (CCE). In 2005, she was the recipient of the Washington Credit Union League’s Mark of Excellence award. She was recognized by the Professional Credit Union Women Association as “Woman of the Year” and co-authored the book Washington Credit Unions, 100 Years.

“I encourage all of Washington state’s credit union leaders to support the national movement and get involved! Pick an area in which you have expertise and/or resources and lend your “in-kind” contributions to having a greater outcome. It is critical that we all work to ensure that those that make laws that define our methods of doing business must understand that which makes us different from our- for profit stock held brothers and sisters. Build relationships with your elected officials and visit with them,” adds Susan.

Susan is equally committed to building strong communities through involvement of time and resources. She is on the Board of Directors of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

CUNA (Credit Union National Association) is the premier national trade association serving America's credit unions. The” not-for-profit” trade group is governed by volunteer directors who are elected by their credit union peers.
