CUES Donates $95,000 to Four Credit Union

MADISON, Wis.—The Credit Union Executives Society has contributed $95,000 to support four unique credit union causes.

(www.allCUNews.com) Rose Bartolomucci, president of Kent Credit Union, Kent Ohio, and chairman, CUES board of directors, commented, “This is an example of CUES’ continued dedication to moving the credit union industry forward. We are pleased to support initiatives that strengthen the credit union movement at home and abroad.”

The recipients include:

• The Filene Research Institute, Madison, Wis., (www.filene.org), receives $50,000 to conduct research on ways to increase credit union membership.

• BizKid$, an initiative led by the Washington Credit Union League (http://www.waleague.org/bizkids.html) and Junior Achievement Worldwide, receives $25,000. BizKid$, a PBS Kids television program, will be produced by the Emmy Award-winning creators of Bill Nye the Science Guy and will promote financial literacy to kids and credit union education to families.

• The Martin Luther King Memorial Foundation, Washington, D.C., receives $10,000 for a memorial to Dr. King; the Foundation’s fundraising efforts are led by the African-American Credit Union Coalition (www.aacuc.org).

• The Cambodian Project, formed by the World Council of Credit Unions (www.woccu.org) receives $10,000 to help start credit unions in Cambodia.

CUES President/CEO Fred Johnson noted, “These programs will increase credit union visibility, while supporting diversity, improving membership and assisting the movement’s mission of community outreach. We are proud to support these initiatives.”
